Humorous Illustrations 1990-1994 In the 1990's, I was working as a stand up comic, touring comedy clubs and performing at private and company parties throughout the mid-west. I was the opening act for (then popular) acts including, Dennis Miller, Paula Poundstone, Elayne Boozler, Country singer Lori Morgan, The Beach Boys, and Micheal Bolton. (I celebrate his entire collection :) ) As a way to kill time while on the road, I began illustrating some of my jokes and drawing other cartoons. My work was eventually represented by Creatif Lisencing in New York and many of these were published as greeting cards, or licensed for merchandising as tee shirt graphics, coffee mugs etc ....some of em are still pretty funny...others are just stupid...Oh well. They can't all be diamonds...can they, Mary Ellen Moss? (inside joke) When I stopped doing stand-up, I began working in clay and the number of cartoons I produced began to dwindle but, I have recently rediscovered my love for the cartoon and will continue to add new ones as they come. I also recently found a box of dozens of rough black and white humorous illustrations that I had forgotten about. Several of them made me laugh out loud...20 years later....Now THAT is just good comedy writing there!!!...or maybe I am the only one who thinks they're funny......ANYWAY...Maybe I will post some of those too....how fun? Keep checking back for new toons and to get you daily smile on! Oh.....and feel free to share the fun!!!
Interesting footnote: "A man walks into a bar" was the first cartoon I ever did. It was purchased by 3 different companies for merchandising, including What On Earth Catalog, a mail order catalog based in Twinsburg, Ohio. It was used as a tee shirt graphic. This first cartoon has out sold ALL of the rest of my cartoons...combined.... AND....it is STILL in the catalog today...17 years later! I guess that was my one hit single.....I could have just done the one cartoon and been done with it....IF it were just about the money, but it ain't....When it comes to my cartoons....I am in it for laughs...speaking of which.... I will still get the occasional royalty check for "A man walks into a bar " for some rediculous amount, like $2.72 It's like getting a refund check for the "Opti-Grab" Some of you got that.
