Other Fun Stuff...While painting is my main thing, I just enjoy creating in general. This page is dedicated to all of that OTHER stuff.
Garden Sculptures
One of the MANY things that I LOVE about Asheville is all of the FREE stuff that you can find curbside. Asheville is the BEST in reducing, reusing, and recycling and you can often find some great stuff that folks will set out by the curb with a FREE sign hung on it. Some of my friends have
dubbed me the Curb King because I am always finding good stuff along the roadside. Sometimes it is just something that needs cleaning up, if that. Other times it requires a little more vision, some innovation, and a little more work. That's cool though.....one man's trash is another man's art project...Here are a few.

Yard Sculpture #1
This piece stands 6ft tall with another 1 foot below the ground for installing. It is made from found scrap lumber, colored glass rods, rusted metal hoops that were used for making Christmas Wreaths, and old brake drum from a car, other scrap metal, a mirror ball, and fashioned coat hangers.
The spiral metal holder in front holds a small plant or candle holder. This piece will just become cooler over time as the wood and metal weather even more. $350 (will install in your location for $25)

Yard Sculpture #2 Someone else saw it as this....
I saw it as this!!!........
This piece is officially titled: Sculpture #2 but, I secretly call it "Improvement on a Futon" and is made from a busted and discarded futon frame. Growing up in my dad's workshop, I love working in wood and I HATE to see usable wood thrown away. This is one of those curbside finds that required some vision. The center was left open to install a wind chime which the piece now has. The finished piece already had an "Asian Vibe" to it because of the angles and in the setting of the bamboo in my backyard, it really looked at home. This piece is offered at $550 ($25 to install)
Mid-Century Modern Make Over
Dining Room Table
Mid-Century Modern Make Over
Dining Room Table
This table was made entirely from found materials. The base is Mid Century Modern and was left behind when my neighbors moved out. The top was pretty rough and was missing a couple of pieces that made the extendable leafs functional, so I removed what was remaining. The frame of the top is made from the long boards from the busted futon frame used in Yard Sculpture #2 . I also added a center brace to support the slats that will be used for the top.
The boards that were used for the slatted top were all found curbside. They were masked off and painted with randomly spaced stripes using an
"Atomic Age" color pallette. You may notice in the photo of the finished table that there are no white boards. I opted to replace them with the solid natural wood to tie them in with the base and make it a bit "warmer"

View from the end of the table with slats in place.
Side View: Ain't she perty? The table top will be finished with a clear epoxy resin that will protect the beauty of this Mid Century Modern Make Over
Once complete This one of a kind piece will be offered at $550

Left Over Paintings
(Hand Crafted Beads)
Another way to reduce wasted and make something beautiful from materials that would have otherwise gone into the trash. Left Over Paintings are hand crafted beads that are made from paint scraped from my pallete and shaped into wearable art. Each pendant is shaped by hand and comes with a 24inch black cord that can be tied to length, along with a story card (shown below) that includes the title of the painting from which the bead was made. Those who purchase these beads can visit my website and see the painting from which their bead came....how fun? $20 each
Note: These beads have all sold but I have a NEW BATCH of about 20 coming! Check back or contact me if you would like to see em.

Love Stories (Little books of love)
I love you! The End. Short and sweet. Only 2 pages to these these hand crafted keepsakes but, they tell your love story without all of the time consuming details. These wooden books are hand constructed and hand painted and then given 3 coats of a clear matte finish to protect the image. Pencil Box >>>>
(Created for my mother) I have always known who I got my creative side from...my mother. And while I have always known she was "crafty" and did amazing things with a glue gun, I had only seen one drawing that she had ever done. It was when I was in high school and remember it was a pencil drawing of an imaginary castle. I wish I would have asked her for it as it is now long lost. Fast forward thirty some years later. Last year while I was visiting home, my mom (now in her 80's ) breaks out some drawings that she had copied from a book on caricature drawing.... and they were amazing....Most were drawn on the backs of scrap paper. I told her that her drawings were to good to be doing them on scrap paper and also told her that I would be very disappointed if she did not continue because she was very good. When I returned home I bought her a nice sketch pad, some good pencils, smudge sticks, and erasers and made this box with her name (Cecilia) in my abstract style and sent it all to her in hope she will be inspired to do more. I hope she has some new drawings for me the next time I visit. Hand painted monogram boxes made to order. Prices vary. |

"Inside" Jokes
This is a drawing commissioned by my friend, Murphy. She asked me to illustrate something funny that was said by her first born daughter, after her baby sister was born. This is what I came up with... I love it when someone can give me a few ideas to play with and leave me with it. So much fun to see how much fun I can have. Do you have an idea you would like to bring to life? I would love to help you make it happen.
....and Commissioned Pieces
Stop and Smell the Cookies >>>>> Robert Foster, General Manager of The Double Tree Hotel at Biltmore, commissioned these two small paintings to celebrate his hotel being number one out of 297hotels. It was also the 25th anniversary of the Double Tree Chocolate chip cookie. The paintings were created for, and were presented to Anne Thompson, one of the CEO's of The Double Tree Brand. The subjects for the paintings were my great niece, Lily and my great nephew, River |

<<<<<<< Tomato Farm Sign
4ft Diameter Acrylic on Reclaimed Table top
(Collection of Cheryl Morrow- Joplin Missouri)
This piece was painted on a discarded wood table top that had been thrown out. It was warped by the sun and when I tried to flatten it out the top split in two places...thats OK though. Sometimes those kinds of "happy accidents" will actually add
to a piece.
